About Us

My name is Kai Whiting. I am a researcher and lecturer in sustainability and Stoicism based at the Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium. My main research interests are how to better account for resource use and the practical application of Stoic philosophy to the challenges of the 21st century. My background is Environmental Engineering, but I recognise that without philosophy we will never understand the “why” we do what we do, which is why I combine both disciplines in my approach.

In short, the problems are too complex, the risks too high, to only go down one route of investigation. We must work together with all the skills at our disposal to safely and sustainably navigate the reality we face. So I am glad you are here because it means that you too are part of the solution and hungry to know more.

This website is not about me, it is about all of us! We are in this together. If you agree with this sentiment, feel free to sign up to the email list to hear more about how we can align our day to day life with more environmentally-conscious thinking and the four Stoic virtues of justice, courage, wisdom and self-control. I would also love to hear from you personally in English, Spanish or Portuguese at kai.whiting [at] uclouvain.be
